Avastin Injection

Generic Name: Avastin - Injection [ BE-VA-Siz-oo-MAB ] 

WARNING: This medicine may rarely cause a tear in the stomach / intestines (gastrointestinal perforation and wound dehiscence), vomiting blood, or bleeding in the lungs, which can sometimes be fatal. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop: stomach / abdominal pain, constipation with vomiting, fever, black stool / bloody, blood in vomit or cough up blood.

Tell your surgeon that you are taking this medicine before having any surgery (see also Precautions section).
Avastin Injection
Use: This drug is a human antibody (IgG1) for the treatment of kidney, colon and rectum. Bevacizumab is also used to treat lung cancer (non small cell type), and some types of brain tumors. Cancer experts say that bevacizumab may be useful in the treatment of breast cancer, but the FDA says that the risks outweigh the benefits of this disease. If you have breast cancer, talk with your doctor the risks and benefits of bevacizumab. This drug works by blocking certain proteins (vascular endothelial growth factor VEGF), which reduces blood flow to the tumor and slow the growth of tumors.

INSTRUCTIONS: 
This medicine is infused into a vein by a health professional. The first dose is given 90 minutes. If you tolerate the first dose, then infusions may have a shorter term (60 or 30 minutes). The dose is based on your medical condition, response to previous treatment, and weight. Tell your doctor if your weight changes.Use this medication regularly to get the maximum benefit. Try not to miss any doses.


SIDE EFFECTS: Dry mouth, cough, voice changes, loss of appetite, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, mouth sores, nausea, headaches may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist immediately.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he estimated that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects effects.Tell your doctor immediately if you have serious side effects, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the ankles / feet, sudden weight gain, fatigue, tachycardia, fainting, signs of infection (eg fever, persistent sore throat), difficulty urinating, calf pain / swelling, muscle spasms, severe stomach / abdominal pain, urine frothy / dark, yellowing eyes / skin, loss of muscle mass, decreased urine output.

Symptoms of a severe infusion reaction that may occur during treatment with bevacizumab include difficulty breathing, flushing, dizziness, nausea / vomiting, tremors, or chest pain.

Tell your doctor if you have any of these symptoms during treatment. Your doctor will monitor you closely and will temporarily stop your treatment, if a reaction occurs.Bevacizumab rarely can cause blood clots to form and cause serious medical problems (heart attack / angina, stroke / TIA).

Seek immediate medical attention if you develop chest pain / tightness, sudden vision changes, weakness on one side of the body, confusion or slurred speech. If any of these situations occur, you should not get this medicine again.This medicine may cause bleeding. Some episodes may be minor including nosebleeds, bleeding gums minor, and vaginal bleeding. If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Other episodes may be more severe, including gastrointestinal bleeding or bleeding in the lungs (see also Warning section.) This medicine may cause high blood pressure.

This reaction can be severe enough to require blood pressure therapy.Learn to control your blood pressure regularly and share the results with bevacizumab doctor.Rarely, can cause a condition called RPLS (reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome). Seek medical help immediately if you develop persistent headache, seizures, sudden vision changes, mental / mood changes(For example, confusion).


An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but get medical help immediately if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching / swelling (especially of the face / tongue / throat), dizziness, severe difficulties breathing.This is not a complete list of possible side effects.
